Bernadette Novembre has commanded the attention of the music scene worldwide with her electric dream-like Indie Rock songs and enchanting live performances. So much so, in 2025 Bernadette was selected as a semi-finalist of the International Songwriting Competition (ISC), the first song off her Album, ‘Another View from Dystopia’, made it to the Top 5 of the AMRAP metro charts within its first week and one of Bernadette’s very first songs has been selected to feature in a new Paramount + and Netflix series to be distributed worldwide, ‘Futuro Desierto’. Bernadette has been likened to 1960’s divas - Dusty Springfield, Cher, Grace Slick, Cilla Black and Diana Ross.

SLIDING IS THE THIRD SINGLE OFF BERNADETTE’S DEBUT ALBUM TO BE RELEASED IN 2026.

Written by Bernadette Novembre and Joshua Moriarty (Telenova, Miami Horror, All The Colours), Sliding is the third single off Bernadette’s debut Album and will be released on Friday, 1 August 2025.

The song was inspired by Bernadette’s battle with treatment resistant depression and anxiety disorder many years ago. It encapsulates what it feels like to be stuck within your own mind (refer to lyric – “Dusty shutters they close you in/ Feel the shudder the ghosts within”) and how sometimes “the surreal” or escapism is your only salvation (refer to lyric – “Seen the surreal and it’s better there”). Ultimately, depression is a journey and one in which you become stronger. Once you have seen the light at the end of the tunnel (as cliché as that sounds), you finally recognise your worth.

A keen lyricist with an interest in poetry (favourite writer being Shakespeare), Bernadette wrote all the lyrics of the songs on the Album with Joshua Moriarty co-writing the melodies. The melody, as much of the songs on Bernadette’s debut Album, is reminiscent of the late 1960’s Rock tunes of her idols - The Beatles, George Harrison, David Bowie, The Doors, The Kinks, The Zombies, The Animals, Janis Joplin, The Mamas and The Papas, Jimi Hendrix, David Bowie, Electric Light Orchestra, The Beach Boys, Dusty Springfield etc. interspersed with modern Indie Rock sounds inspired by the Arctic Monkeys, Saint Motel, Tempesst, Beach House, Lana del Rey, Florence and The Machine, The Vaccines, Babyshambles, Franz Ferdinand, Oasis, PJ Harvey, Queens of The Stone Age, Chrissie Hynde and Alexandra Savior. Joshua and Bernadette share this passion for 1960’s music and Indie Rock.

The song (and the Album) was recorded at Head Gap Recording Studio, in Preston (Melbourne). Finn Keane was exceptional as Engineer and Joshua Moriarty as Producer. Joshua also played all the parts on the Album except for drums. The extraordinary Luke Andresen, who has been an integral part of Bernadette’s band now for eight years, played all the drum parts in the recordings. To round out the magic, the sound magician Cam Parkin meticulously mixed the tracks and the legendary Adam McElnea (Sonamax Mastering) mastered the tracks.

The song will be officially celebrated with a live Single Launch on Saturday, 13 September from 7.00pm at the Northcote Social Club. Bernadette will be joined by her band made up of exceptional young musicians – Olivia Tomada (Keyboard and Backing Vocals), Adyn Young (Lead Guitar and Backing Vocals), Josh Boult (Rhythm Guitar), Ethan Colussi (Bass) and Luke Andresen (Drums). Bernadette feels honoured to be supported by the amazing artists Supa Lucia, ÖZERGUN and Ben Mastwyk & His Millions on the night.

👁️🚀 SLIDING IS SET FOR RELEASE 1 AUGUST 2025 ALONG WITH A MUSIC VIDEO.

About the music video

Directed by the visionary Andrew Yeremeyev and the dynamic Daniel Bolt working closely as Director of Photography, the music video perfectly expresses the meaning of the song.

Bernadette Novembre as ‘The Pop Star’ and Erik Thomson as ‘The Music Manager’ on the set of Sliding.

Three protagonists represent each part of Bernadette’s psyche; The Maid, The Master and The Pop Star. The Maid is a determined strong female who is sent to care for The Master (a representation of the darkness within). It is revealed to The Maid that The Master wishes to take hold of her and consume her existence, therefore The Maid ultimately breaks The Master’s curse (represented by the “evil eye” in the video). The Pop Star is interspersed without and embodies the escapism of performance and the ability to transform into someone else and momentarily forget your troubles. There is a duality in The Pop Star’s character however, because whilst she represents a certain freedom, she also demonstrates how the music industry can consume you and how it can eat you up and spit you out – represented by the character of The Music Manager played by one of the greats of Australian television and film Erik Thomson (Packed to the Rafters, 800 Words).

On the set of Sliding at Gasworks Arts Park, Melbourne.

There were many inspirations for the video. Having graduated from La Trobe University with a Bachelor of Arts (English Literature and History majors), Bernadette drew inspiration from 18th Century Gothic literature such as Ann Radcliffe’s The Mysteries of Udolpho. For the character of The Master, Bernadette was inspired by the character of Miss Havisham in Charles Dickens’ Great Expectations and Sunset Boulevard’s Norma Desmond. Also, Bernadette’s favourite artist Salvador Dali inspired The Master’s “evil eye” from his dream sequence in Alfred Hitchcock’s Spellbound. For The Maid, Bernadette modelled her character’s performance on Melanie Daniels in Hitchcock’s The Birds. The Pop Star’s inspiration came from Dusty Springfield and Italian artist Dalida. An article in The Observer from October 2023 stated about Dusty, "…she was desperately insecure and hid herself under thick make-up and a beehive hairdo. 'To be the star they wanted,' she explained, 'I had to hide behind a mask, and I chose mascara.’”

Bernadette is forever thankful for the dream team that worked on this video, namely – Andrew Yeremeyev (Director, Producer and Editor), Daniel Bolt (Director of Photography), Sean Hutton (1st Assistant Director), Talana Daff (Wardrobe Assistant, Bernadette’s double and ‘Broadcast Studio Crew Member’), Eve Louise Gale (Beauty Director – Hair & Makeup), Brigitte Khalil-Salib (Makeup Assistant), Annika Rigg (Production Designer), Fifi Aitken (Design Assistant), Tommy Le and Claire Giuffre (Camera Assistants, Claire also ‘Broadcast Studio Crew Member’), Joel Soh (Steadicam), Francis Healy Wood (Gaffer and ‘Broadcast Studio Crew Member’), Aidan D’Arcy (Best Person and ‘Broadcast Studio Crew Member’), Hannah Dougherty (‘Broadcast Studio Crew Member’), Sarah Ruhullah (BTS Photographer and ‘Broadcast Studio Crew Member’), Ted Deacey (Colourist), James Yeremeyev (Sound Design) and Neil Rowe (Visual Effects).

A special thank you to Lewis Bradley at Bradley Rose Hair for keeping Bernadette’s hair in pristine condition, Scorpio Rising, Queens of Archive and Hollywood Custom Wigs.

A special thank you also to the team at Gasworks Arts Park and the National Trust of Australia (Victoria) for allowing Bernadette to film in the stunning Labassa. Also, the video wouldn’t have been the same without our stunning 1935 Rolls Royce Sedanca De Ville! Thank you to Eddie (Chauffeur) and Vincent and the team at Always Classic Cars.

the music video locations

Bernadette has always believed that locations serve as another character in film and literature. She wanted to ensure that the locations had an eerie quality to them for this song. A passion for 1960s live studio performances and High Victorian/ French Second Empire architecture, Bernadette personally scouted the locations for this music video.

Bernadette chose to film at Gasworks Arts Park in Albert Park (Melbourne) and the famous Labassa mansion Caulfield North (Melbourne) – also where cult classic Picnic at Hanging Rock was filmed. Bernadette is passionate about the city she was born and grew up in, and therefore via her videos, wants to showcase amazing locations in the city.

About Bernadette Novembre

Born and bred in Melbourne, Bernadette had an early start in music and began singing professionally at the age of only six. Touring with international artists from six to 12 years old, Bernadette is heavily influenced by French and Italian artists of the 1960's such as Françoise Hardy, Dalida and Mina.

In 2017 Bernadette began to entrench herself in the Melbourne music scene and started singing again and songwriting. This resulted in the release of a critically acclaimed Soul EP Rebounding which was co-written and produced by Ryan Ritchie (True Live, The Raah Project). Radio stations across the country and internationally played Bernadette’s songs which translated into a loyal following around the world and her participation in numerous gigs and festivals. The first single off this EP, Everybody Knows is soon to be featured in a new major series on Paramount + and Netflix called Futuro Desierto.

Almost four years ago, Bernadette met the creative genius Joshua Moriarty (Telenova, Miami Horror, All The Colours) who agreed to co-write and produce Bernadette’s debut Album. Bernadette always knew that she wanted to make an Indie Rock album, having been inspired by her favourite 1960’s artists The Beatles, George Harrison, The Doors, The Kinks, The Zombies, The Animals, Janis Joplin, The Mamas and The Papas, Jimi Hendrix, David Bowie, Electric Light Orchestra, The Beach Boys, Dusty Springfield and her modern-day idols the Arctic Monkeys, Saint Motel, Tempesst, Beach House, Lana del Rey, Florence and The Machine, The Vaccines, Babyshambles, Franz Ferdinand, Oasis, PJ Harvey, Queens of The Stone Age, Chrissie Hynde and Alexandra Savior. A surrealist at heart, Bernadette’s new music has been described as ‘Avant-Indie Alt Rock on the dreamscape’ due to the dreamlike quality of her lyrics and melodies. With the new Album, Bernadette also aspires to create a polyptych in the form of four music videos to metaphorically paint the picture of the songs’ transcendent meanings. Her debut Album is expected to be released in 2026.

Bernadette has achieved so much in the eight years she has been back in the music scene. Highlights of Bernadette’s career thus far include playing support to members of The Rolling Stones and being chosen to headline festivals such as the St Kilda Festival and the Queenscliff Music Festival. The first single off Bernadette’s debut Album Another View from Dystopia debuted at #5 on the AMRAP Metro Charts in its very first week. The music video for this song and Into the Now (unreleased song on the forthcoming Album) made it to the semi-final of the International Songwriting Competition (ISC) in March 2025.
